The Newfoundland and Labrador College of Nurses (NLCN) is the regulatory body for all Nurse Practitioners (NPs), Registered Nurses (RNs), and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in the province.

Newfoundland and Labrador has been working to reduce barriers to nursing practice in our province by creating expedited pathways for provincial, national, and international applicants to work as full-time nurses.

Internationally trained nurses (IEN’s) who were educated and who are currently licensed in good standing in the USA, UK, Ireland, India, Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, Nigeria or Hong Kong are eligible to apply for registration in Newfoundland and Labrador using the designated countries pathway. 

Those who were educated outside and who are not currently licensed in good standing in the countries identified above are eligible to apply for registration using the general registration pathway.

Nurse Practitioners (NPs)

To obtain a license to practice as an NP in Newfoundland and Labrador, begin with a formal application to the college, using one of the following pathways:
